First off, tell us about yourself! What type of content do you do?
Hello, my name is Dan and I'm from Indianapolis, IN. I mainly stream content on Twitch, but expanding this year into making more guides and reviews. I come from the Destiny 2 community, but have been dabbling in variety over the past year. Lately I've enjoyed Astro Bot & Metaphor: ReFantazio when I'm not helping to push back the darkness with my community. What inspired you to start fundraising for charity?
I've come up through the Destiny/Destiny 2 directory and there's always some charity streams going on there. People like Gothalion, ProfessorBroman, DrLupo & Aura all set a wonderful examples for us to reach out and support causes that mean a lot to us.What emotions did you feel when you realized you'd hit your latest Tiltify fundraising milestone?
An immense sense of pride. My community is incredibly kind and giving. I'm very lucky to be surrounded by folks who help out at what can be the drop of a hat to help improve someone's life. Whether that's by playing games with one another, donating to a disaster relief campaign that popped up, or one of our annual events they go the extra mile everytime.
How did you overcome moments of doubt or slow progress in your campaigns?
Is there a particular donation or message from a supporter that left a lasting impact on you?
Have you collaborated with other fundraisers, streamers, or organizations? If so, what was that experience like?
How do you maintain the momentum and enthusiasm of your supporters across multiple campaigns?
I've been doing this a long time, but something I recently started doing over the last couple years was give Campaign Badge roles in my Discord server. That helped highlight folks who gave and it's kind of fun to see people collect those. That role is also tied into a higher level 'Fundraiser' role which allows me to have conversations about what they'd like to see in the next campaign. Also, if you produce segments that people like on any given year, you can use them as a kind of "greatest hits" incentive or special event. A few examples for us: This past year we had a spelling bee where people in chat could donate to make the words harder for specific participants. One time I set up a tower of wood blocks and while that stood I attempted to solo a Dungeon in Destiny 2. People could donate to add their name to a block and if the tower fell over they were rewarded a prize and I had to start the dungeon attempt over. I think if you're creative with your incentives, and you don't mind being the butt of a joke from time to time, your community will show up and surprise you!
What have you learned about yourself through this journey of raising money for charity?
I'd like to think that it's helped me understand people a bit more and helped add a few points into my empathy stat. I feel like I can meet people on their level better.
Lastly, what are your future goals for fundraising? Do you have a specific target or project in mind?
I want to reach $100K in fundraising before I hang it all up. I've been able to do so much good work with my community and I don't want that to stop anytime soon! For 2025, my goal is $10K. My community surprised me last year by going way over my expectations.
