Community Spotlight: Quiltoni

This week, we are featuring the amazing work of Quiltoni (she/her)!

She is a Quilting, Sewing, and Chaotic content creator, and a wonderful member of the Tiltify community.

We asked her some questions about her time fundraising for charity on Tiltify, so let’s get into it!

How much have you fundraised?

$141,306.09

What is the next fundraising campaign you have planned?

Currently, I am raising money for Starlight to support the RunDisney events. I help run the "twitch" team for Disney running. The next event after this one is the Create a Thon for Curing Kids to benefit St Jude in December. It is a raid train event where streamers create something with their hands on stream (no gaming) based on a theme from a St Jude patient. It is a lot of fun and culminates in a speed sewing race that anyone can register for and join through zoom.

What is your favorite moment of fundraising?

It is a tie. They both happened during sewing race streams. The first is when BanzaiBaby was hosting and someone donated to make me wear oven mitts for the very first time while sewing, and the second is when Askesienne was hosting and I had discovered what I could do while wearing the oven mitts (2 clips)

Why do you choose to fundraise?

I was born with disaccharide intolerance and wasn't diagnosed until I was almost 2 years old. This means my body is missing the enzyme to break down complex food structures (lactose, sucrose and maltose). I was so sickly before I was diagnosed (2nd person to be diagnosed) that I spent most of my time in the hospital. I was not developing quickly or in the same way as other children so was susceptible to a lot of germs and diseases and spent a lot of time in the hospital growing up. This was in the 70s and early 80s before they understood that happiness helps kids heal faster. I raise money for Starlight to help other kids in the hospital be happy and heal. I also raise money for St Jude because every kid should be able to experience life as I was given a chance to live.

What Tiltify tools have you used that made an impact on your fundraising?

The overlay is the most important tool for fundraising. Being able to brand it with the Cause colors and showing the recent donations in the event box help celebrate donors and the charity. Rewards are a great way to cause events to trigger (like oven mitts), but my favorite tool is the targets. My community enjoys making me suffer. I run because they hit a 20k goal target. I rode Space Mountain 25 times in 2 days because of them. My current Starlight campaign features 2 rides I swore I would never ride. The Mickey Death Wheel and Tower of Terror. If funded, I will have to ride them and document it.

What is a fun fact you’d like to share?

My left arm is my charity arm. Every $5,000 we raise for charity unlocks a heart. If you donate at least $400 or more while a heart is unlocked, you choose what the heart will be. I have no say into the tattoos on that arm. I have a little mermaid tattoo from Leshkee and despise Little Mermaid. I also have a tattoo of TheHotDish's face. https://www.instagram.com/p/C7O6KQZMrol/

What advice do you have for anyone fundraising for the first time?

Just do it. Most charities have discords that will help you every step of the way. If you choose to raise money for Starlight, I will be right there in the discord holding your hand. Every dollar you raise helps the charity you choose. It isn't about how much money you raise or how big your community is. If you have the ability to help others, it will help change the world. Let's leave this world a little better than when we arrived..
